Service Description

Mission Statement: The Five Pillars Fitness Book Club exists to strengthen mind, body, and community through powerful stories that move us. Inspired by A Most Beautiful Life, we gather to explore books centered on fitness, wellness, resilience, leadership, identity and human potential. Like rowing, our conversations require rhythm, courage, vulnerability, and teamwork. We believe: Movement builds confidence Stories build empathy Community Builds Resilience Learning builds Longevity Growth Happens here First Book: A Most Beautiful Thing: The True Story of America's First All Black High School Rowing Team The story of the first all black high school rowing team is the perfect bridge between story and stroke By Arshay Cooper Book Two: The Deepest Well: Healing the Long Term Effects of Child Adversity by Nadine Burke Harris MD Dr. Burke Harris explores with the reader how trauma is not just an emotional wound. It is biological. The ACE study found a strong connection between truama in childhood and heart disease, autoimmune disorders, depression, substance use, obesity and more. Movement is the best medicine because it regulates the nervous system, increases our life span, and builds resiliency. At Five Pillars Fitness and at Row House we build strong bodies and at the Five Pillars Book Club we build community.
