Sentencing Advocacy Pricing: Lawyer - $275 Public Defender - $225 Mitigation Specialist - $200 8:30 am - Check in 9 am - 10:15 am Mitigation & Non-Capital Sentencing Investigation. Mitigation is a core component of the effective representation of our clients. Sentencing is often the most consequential stage of the proceeding. For many clients mitigation determines: 1) whether the client will go to jail or prison; and 2) the length and conditions of supervision, access to alternatives and the collateral consequences affecting all aspects of the client's life. 15 minute break 10:30 am - 11:45 am Creating Compelling Exhibits for Sentencing Proceedings Finding and presenting the client's counter narrative to the government's narrative is the main objective of sentencing advocacy. In this session we will discuss the investigation required and how to effectively use the client's story to advocate for a just sentence. The session will expose the student to exhibits that can lay the foundation for persuasive advocacy. 15 minute break 12 pm - 1:15 pm The Role of Exercise and Movement when Treating Vicarious Trauma. This session integrates lecture with structured physical activity connecting movement and exercise to ethical competence, professional responsibility and attorney longevity. All participants should come ready to participate in 30 minutes of recovery work on a rower. LIMITED SEATS: 25 lawyers and/or mitigation specialist. Public Defender Discount available.
