Sentencing Advocacy and Mitigation Pricing: Lawyer - $275 Public Defender - $225 Mitigation Specialist - $200 8:30 am - Check in @ Row House - Parkville 6264 Lewis Street, Parkville Missouri 9 am - 10:15 am Session 1: Mitigation & Non-Capital Sentencing Proceedings (1.25 hours) Mitigation is not just a tool for the death penalty. It is a core component of competent representation in every criminal case. In non-capital cases, sentencing is often the most consequential stage of the proceeding. For many clients, mitigation determines: 1) whether the client goes to jail or prison; 2) the length and conditions of supervision, access to alternatives, and the collateral consequences affecting housing, employment, and family stability. 15 minute break (refreshments) 10:30 am - 11:45 am Session 2: Creating Compelling Exhibits for Sentencing Proceedings & Exploring Human Geography Human Geography is the study of how people's lives are shaped by place including social systems, economic conditions, cultural norms, institutions, and physical environments. In Mitigation it allows the court to understand how environmental, systemic, and structural forces contribute to human behavior. 15 minute break (refreshments) 12 pm - 1:15 pm Session 3: The Role of Movement & Exercise in Treating Vicarious Trauma (1.0) This session integrates lecture with structured physical activity connecting movement and exercise to ethical competence, professional responsibility and attorney longevity. All participants should come ready to participate in 30 minutes of recovery work on a rower. LIMITED SEATS: 25 lawyers and/or mitigation specialist. Public Defender Discount available.
